The Hop Leaf Gazette was the ‘In House’ magazine of H&G Simonds Ltd for distribution to management, staff & publicans. First published monthly in October 1926, it was also later for public sale.
This section holds the complete collection of 16 fat blue annual compendium volumes that were produced for management, staff & customers who subscribed for them, from 1926 – 1942. They contain 192 monthly issues, each as a separate and fully searchable file in high resolution. They contain over 12,000 pages of the Social History of Reading, packed with names and dates of Reading’s oldest families. There are a few of the original monthly volumes in my archive – available on the next section on the menu sidebar to the right.
You can use the annual links below to navigate through the 16 years and monthly issues. Note in order to be more effectively searchable, the files are large, 10-15MB each, so please be patient!
